Great Yarmouth has attracted visitors for 900 years but the seaside has been the main attraction for only 200, so behind the glamour, glitter and bright lights that make Great Yarmouth one of the UK's most popular seaside resorts is a town steeped in history. Great Yarmouth was one of the wealthiest towns in Britain because of its prosperous herring industry and in 1724 Daniel Defoesaid Great Yarmouth had "the finest quay in England, if notin Europe". The Town Wall built between 1261 and 1400 ranks amongst the best in the country as most of the wall and towers still survive. Great Yarmouth has eight museums.

Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach


The Pleasure Beach Great Yarmouth is an amusement park located in the seaside resort town of Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on the English east coast. It opened in 1909. The largest and most popular ride at the park is the wooden Roller Coaster which opened in 1932. There are also around thirty other large rides at the park, as well as children's entertainment, amusement arcades, catering facilities, sweet shops and ice cream parlours.


Time and Tide Museum of Great Yarmouth Life


Time and Tide: The Museum of Great Yarmouth Life, located in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, United Kingdom, is set in one of the UK's best-preserved Victorian herring curing works and is Norfolk's third largest museum. The museum is centred on Great Yarmouth's rich maritime and fishing heritage, mainly focusing on the history of Yarmouth and the herring curing works. The museum feature various exhibitions including a typical 'Row' from 1913, a Yarmouth quayside from the 1950s and hands on displays, films, audio guides and children's activities. The museum is currently visited by around 30,000 people a year. Time & Tide museum is part of Maritime Heritage East which is a partnership of over 35 maritime museums in the East of England.
